Hello, My name is Emma but most people call me Em. By now you probably know I am a graphic designer so here I’ll tell you a little bit more about me outside of work.
In my spare time I am an artist, keen mountaineer and hillwalker and competitive strength athlete. I compete at a national level in Strongwoman as a lightweight competitor and in Powerlifting as well as more casually competing in amateur Crossfit competitions. It’s safe to say I am not afraid of a challenge or the hard work that is needed to overcome it!
I live just outside of York in a rural market town so I can escape into nature for a run or a walk in an instant. I love dogs but don’t have my own yet and I am passionate about health, physical and mental. It is because of those that I have volunteered for several organisations over the years such as Scouts, Duke of Edinburgh and North East NHS Mental Health services.
As a teenager I worked for Live Wire as a theatre technician. The organisation was staffed by volunteers who aimed to install and run professional level lighting and theatrical rigs for schools and other not for profit performance groups. This has spurred my fascination for performance and has led me to volunteer at Circo De Bland, annual circus based in York as their theatre technician.
This combined with my academic research in Art History has inspired me to also work as a curator wherever possible. I have worked with several galleries such as The New Art Exchange, Crop Up and Art Rooms a prestigious transient art show in London. I have also begun to plan my next independent show with a fellow enthusiast which we hope to be able to show in York in summer 2022. The exhibition will be focused on our relationships with our bodies, it will be a collaborative multi-media show. We have so far been surveying as many individuals as we can and collecting anonymous opinions and stories to help form our initial ideas. I am excited to see how this project develops in 2021.
